# Weighted Assessment Scoring Formula: A Normalized 100-Point Model

Convert each question or dimension to the same 0-to-100 scale, multiply each normalized value by its published weight, add the contributions, and round only the final display. Keep hard gates separate from the arithmetic. This prevents a large raw scale or a heavily represented dimension from dominating by accident.

## Definition

A weighted assessment score is a combined result in which each normalized question or dimension contributes according to a stated percentage. Normalization makes unlike scales comparable; weighting expresses their intended importance.

## Method and evidence

The model uses five synthetic dimensions on mixed source scales and transforms them to a common 0-to-100 range. It is checked with twelve deterministic cases. involve.me's public plan information was reviewed on September 18, 2026 for answer scoring and calculation-value availability. The normalization, weighting, and aggregation sequence follows the construction stages documented in the OECD and Joint Research Centre handbook on composite indicators. This is a mathematical template, not evidence that the chosen weights predict sales, hiring, health, or learning outcomes.

Evidence type: Normalized weighted formula, worked five-dimension score, reverse-key rule, missing-value policy, and twelve calculation tests. See the [publication methodology](https://best-assessment-tool.com/methodology) and [correction path](https://best-assessment-tool.com/corrections).

## The normalized weighted formula

For an item whose minimum is L, maximum is U, and observed value is x: normalized value = 100 × (x − L) / (U − L). Then: overall score = sum of normalized value × weight. Express each weight as a decimal and require the weights to sum to 1.

## Reverse-scored questions

When a higher response means less readiness, reverse it before aggregation. On a 1-to-5 scale, reversed value = 6 − observed value. Write the direction next to every item in the scoring specification so a wording edit cannot silently invert the meaning.

## Missing answers

The safest public assessment policy is usually to require every scored item. If an optional item is allowed, choose one documented rule: exclude it and renormalize the remaining weights within that dimension, assign an explicit neutral value, or declare that no score can be produced. Never treat missing as zero unless zero truly means the observed condition.

## Separate gates from weights

A gate answers a different question from a weight. An unsupported use case, missing consent, or critical minimum should cap or change the route explicitly instead of being diluted by strong answers elsewhere. Save the base score, gate applied, final band, and scoring version so the personal result can be explained.

## Twelve calculation tests

Automate these cases and compare the exact result with a separately calculated reference.

- All minimum values return 0.
- All maximum values return 100.
- Weights sum exactly to 1.
- A source-scale midpoint maps to the intended normalized midpoint.
- Each reversed item maps its minimum to 100 and maximum to 0.
- Changing one item affects only its documented dimension.
- Decimal precision is retained until display.
- A value just below every boundary stays in the lower band.
- An exact boundary enters the declared band.
- Every missing-answer rule produces the expected status.
- Every gate produces the stated cap or route.
- A saved result retains the formula version used to calculate it.

## Implementation options

involve.me's current Start plan lists lead qualification with scoring, and its full feature table lists answer scoring and individual calculation values across paid plans. Verify the exact functions and limits required before launch, then compare sample platform outputs with the reference calculation above.
