An assessment result graph is a visual encoding of an overall score, several dimension scores, a benchmark, or change across repeated measurements. Its job is to make the result easier to interpret, not merely more impressive.

When should you use a scorecard-style Score visual?
Use it when the primary question is where do I stand overall. The score, band name, short interpretation, and benchmark can sit together. Do not make the respondent infer the band from a colored arc.

Bars or radar: which is better for dimension scores?
Choose bars when the respondent must compare exact values, identify the weakest dimension, or read the result on a phone. Choose radar when the profile shape itself carries meaning and the chart contains a manageable number of axes.
If you use radar, print every value beside or below the chart and keep all axes on the same scale. Do not change axis order between respondents. A shifting axis order changes the shape and makes two profiles look less comparable than they are.
How should a benchmark appear?
A benchmark is useful when it represents a stated target, qualifying threshold, prior score, or defensible reference group. Label which one it is. A line marked target 70 is clearer than an unlabeled contrasting segment.
Do not call a threshold an industry average unless the underlying sample, date, population, and calculation are available. For a new readiness model, decision threshold is the more accurate term.

Worked example: one score and five dimensions
A readiness assessment produces an overall score of 72 and dimension scores of 75, 100, 50, 75, and 50. Use a scorecard or gauge for the 72 overall result and horizontal bars for the five dimensions. Add a benchmark line at 65 only if 65 is the documented threshold for the next action.
A single radar chart could show the pattern, but it would make the two scores of 50 less precise on a small screen. A pie chart would be incorrect because the dimensions are separate measures and do not form parts of a whole.
The accessibility gate for assessment graphs
W3C guidance says charts and other complex images need an equivalent text description. Information conveyed through color also needs a non-color cue. Graphical boundaries that carry meaning should have sufficient contrast.
Place a concise interpretation next to the visual, provide the important values in text or a compact table, label the benchmark, and ensure keyboard and zoom behavior do not hide the result. This also gives answer engines crawlable evidence instead of a result trapped in pixels.

A six-question graph check
Run this check after the result copy is written. If the result fails the first two questions, a different chart will not fix it.
- What exact comparison should the respondent make?
- Can the result be understood from labels and text alone?
- Is the scale consistent and fully labeled?
- Does the benchmark have a defensible meaning?
- Does the visual remain readable at phone width and 200% zoom?
- Does the next action follow the interpretation rather than the color?
