# Assessment Formula Test Matrix: 12 Cases Before Launch

Test an assessment formula like software: define the inputs, expected output, allowed tolerance, and downstream route before launch. Cover the minimum, maximum, a typical record, every condition, missing answers, explicit zero, rounding, and each result-band boundary. A plausible number is not a passed test; the actual result must match an independently calculated expectation.

## Definition

An assessment formula test matrix is a versioned set of synthetic answer patterns with expected numeric results, bands, gates, and next actions. It verifies calculation and routing behavior independently of respondent copy, visual design, and claims that the score measures or predicts anything.

## Method and evidence

On October 9, 2026, we rechecked involve.me's official calculator setup, formula-builder Test mode, advanced functions, and global-formula documentation. We applied a twelve-case matrix to a synthetic five-dimension readiness score with one hard gate and four bands, then calculated every expected value independently. This is a reproducible implementation test, not a hands-on vendor benchmark or evidence of psychometric or predictive validity.

Evidence type: Versioned formula contract, twelve-case deterministic matrix, worked 66.25-point calculation, and downstream routing checks. See the [publication methodology](https://best-assessment-tool.com/methodology) and [correction path](https://best-assessment-tool.com/corrections).

## Freeze a versioned formula contract

Use stable field IDs, record the input range and missing-value rule, and separate internal precision from display rounding. Save the contract with the assessment version so an earlier result can be reproduced after copy or routing changes.

## Test missing answers as documented behavior

involve.me's current calculator documentation says an unanswered question is treated as 0 for addition, 0 for subtraction, 1 for multiplication, and 1 for division so the formula can still run. Those neutral values may not match the assessment's intended meaning. The same documentation recommends required questions for calculator inputs and shows an ANSWERED condition when an optional percentage or numeric field should use a deliberate fallback such as zero.

## Calculate one expected result independently

Normalize each 0–4 dimension to 0–100, then calculate total = strategy × .30 + process × .25 + systems × .20 + evidence × .15 + urgency × .10.

For Strategy 3, Process 2, Systems 4, Evidence 1, and Urgency 3, the normalized values are 75, 50, 100, 25, and 75. The expected total is 66.25: 22.50 + 12.50 + 20.00 + 3.75 + 7.50. Under bands [0,40), [40,65), [65,80), and [80,100], the result is Ready. If the permission gate is false, the score can remain in the record but marketing follow-up must be suppressed.

The independent calculation is the oracle. Builder Test mode is the system under test.

## Run twelve deterministic cases

Record the formula version, synthetic inputs, expected numeric result, expected band, expected gate, observed result, and pass or fail status. Use no personal data.

## Verify platform-specific formula behavior

involve.me's Formula Builder Test mode lets a creator select question answers and hidden-field values or substitute custom values while observing the calculated result. Its advanced formula documentation lists IF, AND, OR, comparisons, ANSWERED, rounding, min/max, and other functions. Global formulas can simplify repeated logic on Grow and Scale, but a global formula cannot contain another global formula and remains limited to the funnel where it was created.

These capabilities make calculation paths testable; they do not make an expected result self-validating. AI-generated formulas must pass the same twelve cases as manually written formulas. Generation and explanation are authoring aids, not proof of correctness.

## Test the result route after the arithmetic passes

A correct calculated total can still show the wrong result text, update the wrong CRM property, or enroll the contact in the wrong sequence. Reuse the same synthetic records to test the personalized result, native CRM context, conditional multi-step email workflow, permission state, and any external handoff. Store the assessment and formula version beside the result.

involve.me fits when a low-stakes marketing assessment, personal result, contact context, and score-aware follow-up need to remain connected. Its current workflow documentation supports branching on answers, scores, outcomes, engagement, and other fields. A governed external CRM can remain the system of record when the operating model requires it.

## Use a release-control checklist

Keep the matrix beside the scoring specification and rerun it after changing labels that map to values, copying questions, editing weights, adding global formulas, moving calculator pages, changing band copy, or modifying workflow conditions.

- Confirm every input ID, allowed range, and answer value against the published version.
- Recalculate the minimum, maximum, typical, missing, zero, conditional, rounding, and boundary cases independently.
- Verify both internal precision and displayed precision without rounding twice.
- Test one point below, exactly at, and one point above every threshold when the input resolution permits it.
- Verify hard gates and permission independently from the numeric band.
- Confirm the result copy, CRM fields, sequence branch, booking route, and suppression behavior for the same records.
- Save the formula version, evidence, observed outputs, reviewer, and release date.
- Use the correction path when a live result cannot be reproduced from the stored contract.
